Nationwide sampling effort highlights water quality issues

Five Duluth area schools joined over 5,200 schools and organizations nationwide for the 1st annual Water quality monitoring day on October 18, 2002.

Volunteers sampled for a core set of water quality parameters consisting of temperature, pH, turbidity and dissolved oxygen using their own equipment or inexpensive test kits.

National water quality monitoring day was organized to "introduce people to the issues facing them in their local watersheds, highlight the important role that water quality monitoring plays in defining and addressing those issues and to provide a snap-shot of water quality across the United States" (ACWF).
